How do I Pre-arrange my funeral?
Preplanning a personalized celebration of your life is not difficult. Simply contact us at Bayview. We will help you choose the type of service you would like, as well as help you plan the details. This will allow your friends and family to honor you, knowing the remembrance is exactly as you wished.
Can I set aside money in advance?
Yes. We will not only help you plan the services you want, but can also offer funding plans specifically designed for this purpose. Funeral funding plans grow at predetermined growth rates, which can help keep pace with inflation and assure that your future funds will cover your future funeral expenses. As an added bonus, the benefits are not taxable, unlike a CD or annuity plan, and any excess funds can be returned to your estate.*
*Trust rules vary by state.
Where would I get the money to pay for this now?
You may already have it. It may be in a rainy-day fund, a Certificate of Deposit, or a money market account at the bank among other places. By transferring the money from those sources and using it to fund a single-payment plan, you will not only receive increased coverage from the first day of issue, but it will increase in value every day until it is needed.
If you don't have all the money readily available now, you can purchase a plan with convenient, mulitple payment options to fit your circumstances or budget. Either way, we have a plan that will enable you to fund your funeral today and make life just a little easier on those that are left behind.
Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home has partnered with the Purple Cross Plan for many years and we are here to answer any questions you may have.
Is my money protected?
Yes, the Purple Cross Plan is protected by the Minnesota Insurance Guarantee Association.
What if I move?
It is YOUR money and any funeral home in the U.S. can, with proof of service provided, submit a claim to collect funds due them. YOUR money follows you wherever you go.
What if I go to a nursing home or have to apply for Medical Assistance?
Your money is irrevocably assigned for your funeral needs. No one can count it as an asset, nor make you cash it in to pay nursing home expenses.
Unlike bank CDs or annuities, you will never receive a 1099 for the growth on your Purple Cross Plan.
What about cost Increases?
Although there are many costs associated with a funeral that are out of our control, historically, the growth on Purple Cross Plans has kept up with increased costs over time.
What benefit is there to choosing a Purple Cross Plan?
The younger you are, and if you can answer 3 simple health questions, Purple Cross can give you a "bump" in the initial value of your policy. There are also options you can choose for payment plans over 3, 5, 7, or 10 years.
Can I put a portion down and pay more later?
Yes. You may have as many policies as you need to in order to fully fund you funeral expenses. The policy minimum is $500.
What if I set aside more money than my funeral costs?
In the event that your funeral does not cost as much as you have set aside, the excess portion is returned to your estate. If you are receiving Medical Assistance at that time, after all funeral expenses are paid, the excess portion would be paid to Medical Assistance.
