Memorial services for Leona Anna Taylor, age 93, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel.  Rev. Jeffrey Kuddes will officiate.  Interment will be at Hollandale Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  

Leona died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Leona Anna (Babey) Taylor was born on September 28, 1918 to John and Anna (Marinek) Babey in Lakefield, MN.  She grew up in the Hollandale and Albert Lea area.  Leona graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1936.  She continued her education at a business school and was employed at Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea and later in Milwaukee at American Credit Indemnity Co. as a secretary.  On December 25, 1941 Leona was united in marriage to Darrell Taylor in Hollandale.  Leona used to be the family secretary also, keeping everyone in touch with letters, cards, calls etc.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hollandale and a past member of the VFW Auxiliary.  She loved music and dancing and had a genuine love for animals.  Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn (David) Lehman of Newton, NC; sisters, Alice Fuhr of Hollandale, MN and Irene Wagner of Portsmouth, VA; sister-in-law, Lorraine Babey of Burnsville, MN; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; infant daughter, Darla; sisters, Evelyn (Spencer) Olson and Julia (Cornelius) Slegh; and brothers, John Babey and Robert (Danice) Babey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Home or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Hollandale.

Aunt Leona & Family,

We are deeply sadend to here of your passing and you will be missed.
I know we didnt spend alot of time together but i have many good
memories.Thinking back to when you and uncle darrel came to marshalltown to visit ,probably when i was 10 or 12.I still remember
playing with Rebel,what a great and beautiful dog.There is no doubt in
my mind that he will be waiting at the gate for you with his tail waging.
At virg and inkys 50th annaversery I spun you around the dance floor
several times (although i was slightly intoxicated)HA HA I still remember
that we had a blast and that you were an excellent dancer.Malisa and i
visited you in your little apartment many yrs.ago. In my eyes you never
seemed to change much everytime i seen you.You were always one of
my favorite aunts and i know when my time comes that you will be one
of the people that i look forward to seeing.I know your new life in heaven
will be a great journey.I hope you see my dad and tell him that i am always
thinking of him,and that you may spend some time together.
Unfortuantly due to my moms health, will be unable to come but you will always be in are thoughts.

So sorry to hear of Leona's passing. She was such a kind and caring woman, always with a smile for everyone. Her grace and style will be missed!

So sorry to hear of Leona's passing in 2012. I remember when she and her father came to Raritan, NJ for a visit many years ago. I still have a picture of my family with them.
