Listen to Obituary

Allen W. Jensen, age 84, of Albert Lea, passed away on September 2, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Bayview Funeral Home. Pastor Lawson will officiate. A luncheon will follow, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Allen was born February 10, 1942, in Clarks Grove, Minnesota, to James and Leona Jensen. The oldest of five children in a faith-filled farming family, he learned the value of hard work, family and faith. Allen and his siblings were a fun bunch who looked after one another. They shared the kind of bond where a single look could say everything. His family is grateful for their aunts and uncles and the example they gave of what family should be. Allen was a member of Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Allen was proud of his Danish heritage. As a young man, he served in the United States Air Force and spent time away from his close-knit community. When he returned, he knew there was no place like Albert Lea and remained there for life. On December 4, 1971, Allen married Kathleen “Kathy” Smith. Kathy was the love and angel of his life. They shared 47 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, road trips and camping. When Kathy died in 2019, she left a space in his heart that never went away. Allen often said, “There is no one in the world like Kathy.” His family finds comfort knowing they are together again.

Allen loved motorcycles, cars, coffee and conversation. He was a regular at local cafés, where the servers knew him simply as Al. He brought fun wherever he went and had a gift for turning coffee and conversation into friendship. Above all, Allen was a wonderful father. He gave his children space to choose their own paths while always watching over and protecting them. He seemed to sense when they needed him and was there with steady support and the best advice.

Allen is survived by his children, Rhonda (Steve) Carlson, Lisa (Steven) Moudry, Stuart (Rebecca) Jensen and Victoria (Simon) Mattar; grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Stutzman, Sky Jensen, Tiffany Jensen, Alex Jensen, Simon Mattar Jr., Savinna Mattar and Izaak Mattar; great-grandchildren, Latalya Youngblood Amos, Victoria Stutzman, Madalynn Stutzman, Charlie Stutzman and Greyson Stutzman; sisters, Sandi Pick and Renee (Bob) Novak; brother, Marlin (Lil) Jensen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; parents, James and Leona Jensen; brother, Randall Jensen; and brother-in-law, Maynard Pick.

Allen will be remembered for his devotion to family, compassion for others, fun-loving spirit and ability to make a friend wherever he went.
