Betty J. Hanson

Memorial services for Betty J. Hanson, age 77, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.  Rev. Daphne Hamborg will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

 

Betty died Thursday, July 19, 2018 in her home.

 

Betty Jean Hanson was born on August 22, 1940 in Hartland, the daughter of Willis and Esther (Borge) Getskow.  She grew up in southern Minnesota. She graduated from Freeborn High School. On August 30, 1958, Betty was united in marriage to Edwin “Eddie” Hanson at Trinity Lutheran Church.  She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge. She was one of the original volunteers with hospice and served on the Altar Guild at Grace Lutheran Church. Betty enjoyed embroidery, reading, cooking, gardening, and needlecraft.  She also loved traveling and playing games.

 

Betty is survived by her husband, Eddie; daughter, Susan Hansen; sister, Peggy (Dale) Detjen; brothers, James (Karen) Getskow and John (Veronica) Getskow; sisters-in-laws, Sandy Getskow, Helen Getskow, and Janice Prescher; aunt, Carol Tenney; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ellen and Gary Alkire; brother-in-law, Larry Hanson and Judy Brambling; special friends, Annalynn and Scott Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Willis Getskow; mother, Esther Johnson; stepdad, Clarence Johnson; brothers, Harold Getskow, Stanley Getskow, George Getskow, and Donald Getskow; grandparents, Sigurd and Agatha Borge; aunts, uncles.

 

We wish to express our profound gratitude to the fantastic Hospice team that cared so lovingly for Betty and appreciation to the Oncology Department at Mayo Clinic.

 

Memorials preferred to the Senior Center or TOPS Club in Albert Lea.
