Cecil Murra

Cecil Murra (92) of Albert Lea, MN, formerly of Blue Earth, MN passed away on July 7, 2026 at Mayo Hospital, Austin, MN.

Cecil was born March 20, 1934 in King Tsp, IA, the son of John Sr, and Katie (Winter) Murra. He attended rural school near Thompson, IA.

Cecil worked on the family farm before heading out on his own to work for other farmers in the area. He married Virgie Ann (Ehlert) on June 20, 1956. They made their home on the Oscar Nelson farm south of Blue Earth, where he was employed farming the land, raising sheep, pigs and cattle. Cecil and Virgie Ann added two daughters to their family; Alice Kay and Linda Lee. Many years later they moved their family to the city limits of Blue Earth. Cecil adapted to town life but still continued to work in farming, spending several years working for Ronnie Lawrence of rural Blue Earth. He also worked for Tafco making running boards for trucks and eventually started his own business mowing lawns and snow blowing and eventually adding a cleaning business.

Cecil kept his passion for farming and enjoyed collecting John Deere mini tractors/implements and other farm memorabilia. Another passion was the many trips he and Virgie Ann took. Nashville, TN and Eureka Springs, AR were two of his many favorite journeys. A special journey was when his daughters gifted them a hot air balloon ride for their anniversary; it was an uplifting experience for dad… not so much for mom but one he spoke of often.

Cecil is survived by his daughters Alice Kay Murra (Parachute, CO) and Linda Lee Bakken (Freeborn, MN), Grandson Anthony Paul Diaz, Jr (Winnebago, MN); Sisters: Lydia Lovik (Forest City, IA) and Mildred Stromer (Garner, IA); Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law: Roger & Mary Lee Thompson (Albert Lea, MN) and Charles & Pat Ehlert (Albert Lea, MN) and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Virgie Ann (Ehlert) Murra; parents John Sr. and Katie (Winter) Murra; Father/Mother-in-law Oliver and Alice Ehlert. Six brothers and (sisters-in-law): John Jr. & (Marilyn) Murra, Willis & (Marie) Murra, Donald & (Bernice) Murra, Harold & (Arlene) Murra and Raymond & (Ruth) Murra. Sister Clara Swalve. Brothers-in-law: Joe Korte, Norman Lovik and Byron Stromer. Nephews: Doug Stromer, Mark Murra and Burton Thompson.
