Charles T. Montanye, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Campus in Albert Lea, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Kent Otterman will be officiating.
Charles was born on November 26, 1947, on the family farm in Geneva, Minnesota, to Charley and Genevieve Montanye.
Charles lived a life defined by dedication, independence, and a deep love for his family. He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate, carrying forward the values of hard work and resilience throughout his life. Following his military service, he built a lifelong career as an over-the-road truck driver, eventually becoming an independent owner-operator. The open road suited him well, as he had a natural love for travel, adventure, and the freedom it brought.
At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Roseta Montanye (Cruz), who was truly the love of his life. Together, they built a family that meant everything to him.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; his son, Brandon C. Montanye; his daughters-in-law, Deb Montanye (Garner), Kelly Montanye (Maas); his grandsons, Dakota J. Montanye and Charles H. Montanye; his granddaughter, Amelia N. Montanye; as well as his sisters, Anne Farr, Audrey Bremer, and Charlotte Bremer. Charles was preceded in death by his sons, Charles D. Montanye and Richard J. Montanye.
Charles will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and his ability to bring smiles to those around him. He was known for his “smart” remarks and playful mischief; always finding a way to lighten the moment and lift others’ spirits.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Genevieve Montanye; his brother, Harold N. Montanye; and his sisters, Lila M. Haakenson and Gladys M. Luna.
Charles’s life was one of strength, humor, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Glaydon Iverson Chapter #16 of the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 53, Albert Lea, MN 56007.
