Danne Charles Nelson

Danne Charles Nelson, age 80, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, Minnesota, with his loved ones by his side.

At this time, a private family memorial service is planned. Please feel free to leave a note for his family on his tribute wall. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota, is honored to serve the family.

Danne was born on February 3, 1946, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Ferrell and Elizabeth (Draayer) Nelson. He grew up in Hollandale and went to school in Albert Lea before joining the U.S. Army. He served from 1966 to 1968 and was honorably discharged. In 1968, he married and was blessed with two sons, whom he was always proud of. Danne shared 33 and a half beautiful years with the love of his life, Betty Sprague. Their time together was filled with deep affection and cherished memories that will always be treasured.

He worked at Wilson Packaging Plant and was also part-owner and operator of V & N’s Tackle Shop. Outside of work, he belonged to the 4-Season Bass Club, the Elks Club, and the American Legion. He loved spending time hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren, and he enjoyed traveling to bass tournaments across the country. Danne was always happy to take kids fishing and share his love for the sport. Teaching his grandchildren how to cast a line was one of his favorite things to do. His kindness and sense of humor made every fishing trip special. Danne also volunteered at the Big Island Rendezvous festival and the annual Take-A-Kid Fishing weekend.

He is survived by his sons, Chris (Michelle) and Justin (Beth); grandchildren: Noah, Bryn, Tyler, Charlie, and Evie; his significant other, Betty Sprague, and her family: Lori (Clark) Gardner, Loren (Shari) Sprague, Cliff Sprague, and Tricia (Chad) Anderson, along with their grandchildren: Meghan (Skye), Gaige, Samantha, Dillon, Jordan, Morgan, and Evan; brother Stan (Cindy); sister-in-law Conny (Herb) Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Danne was preceded in death by his parents, Ferrell and Elizabeth, his brother Conrad, and many other loved ones, including his special fishing buddies Lloyd VanGuildner and Val Madrigal.

We will always treasure the memories we shared with Danne, and his spirit will remain in our hearts.
