Darcy Nielsen, age 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, with Pastor Eileen Woyen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00–8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Darcy was born April 9, 1971, in Albert Lea to Cyle and Harriet Urschitz. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1989. On June 15, 2013, Darcy married Lowell Nielsen, and together they built a life grounded in love, faith, and service. They recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary with a memorable trip to Nashville, TN, alongside their extended church family—a trip Darcy thoroughly enjoyed.
Darcy was passionate about mental health awareness and was instrumental in bringing the “Out of the Darkness” suicide prevention walk to Albert Lea. She led this important initiative for the past eight years, touching countless lives with her compassion and commitment. A devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Darcy also mentored confirmation students, guiding them with grace and kindness.
Creative at heart, Darcy enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting candy bouquets, and capturing special moments through photography. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends.
Darcy is survived by her loving husband, Lowell; her mother, Harriet; brother Dan (Emily) Urschitz; nieces Jazmyne Hanson and Abby Urschitz; children Zach (Angela) Rice, Ty Nielsen, Tasha (Andy), Tiffany (Josh), and Tabitha (Justin); grandchildren Braden, Reed, Bruin, and Juniper; her beloved pets Emma and Casper; father-in-law Bob (Becki) Nielsen; brothers-in-law Randy (Linda), Robbie (Laura), and Paul (Heather) Nielsen; and Whitney Nielsen. She is also survived by many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cyle Urschitz; her “Step-Daddio” Jerry; grandparents Rudy and Flossie Urschitz and Fred and Shirley Michaelis; mother-in-law Pauline Nielsen; aunts Ella and Gladys; cousin Tom Aldrich; and nephew Steven Nielsen.
Darcy will be remembered for her generous spirit, unwavering faith, and the love she gave so freely to others.
