Darlene was one of those ladies that always wanted to help no matter what. Whenever we were quilting Darlene was the "kitchen" lady. She always said she couldn't quilt but she could help get the food out and cleanup after our lunch. I will miss Darlene in many ways, but it will be her smile and spirit I will always cherish.

5 to 7 years ago I was working with Darlene and many others in the kitchen at Silver Lake. As we were cleaning up and putting things away, I saw Darlene opening a cabinet door were salt and pepper shakers were kept. The last I had seen Darlene had salad in her hand. I politely reminded her the salad went in the refrigerator. She politely reminded me the salt and pepper shakers went in this particular cupboard. It wasn't until than I realized she had already put away the salad and was working on putting away the salt and pepper shakers. We both broke into laughter and whenever we worked together in the kitchen after that at some point one of us would reference not putting salad into the cupboard. Laughter shared which will I will not forget.
