Dianne Sorensen

Dianne Ruth Sorensen, age 78, of Mankato, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at Birchwood Cottages. She was deeply loved and exceptionally cared for by the staff and residents, who became a second family to her.

Dianne was born on January 23, 1947, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Truman and Deloris (Rebbe) Olson. She was the sixth of seven children, growing up in a lively household full of energy, laughter, and mischief. Her mother often joked about being driven to the brink by all the mischief in the house, but through it all, she remained a steady light of love and strength for her children and grandchildren

After high school, Dianne attended Hamilton Community College in Mason City, Iowa. She spent her career as a secretary, working for the president at Security State Bank and later as an executive secretary to the CFO of Mayo Hospital in Albert Lea. She approached her work with professionalism, warmth, and grace.

It was during the summer after 10th grade at the local roller rink—one of her favorite hangouts—that Dianne caught the eye of Ken Sorensen, a boy who had just returned from California. Their spark was instant, and after graduating together in 1965, they married in the summer of 1967. Together, they raised two children, Renae and Chad, and built a life full of love, fun, and shared adventures.

Though more quiet by nature, Dianne’s warm smile and gentle laughter lit up every room. She and Ken shared many happy times with family and friends—whether playing cards, camping, boating, visiting the drive-in, dining out, or spending winters in South Padre Island. Through it all, her greatest joy was simply being by Ken’s side. He was the love of her life, and she often credited him with saving her.

Dianne is survived by her devoted husband, Ken Sorensen; daughter Renae Satre (Doug); son Chad Sorensen; grandchildren Halle and Trey Satre, Abby (Devin) Ward, Ellie and Eric Sorensen; siblings Nancy Schwartz, Janice (Kent) Hershey, Bill (Rita) Olson, and Linda Peterson; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Deloris; brothers David and Ronnie Olson; and her granddaughter, Megan Satre.

Dianne’s life was a beautiful example of quiet strength, steadfast love, and joy in life’s simple pleasures. She will be missed beyond measure.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 11th, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Bayview Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN. A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, May 12th at 10:30 am., also at Bayview Funeral Home.
