Dorothy Lavay Kirsch

Dorothy Lavay Kirsch, age 97, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Dorothy Lavay (Olson) Kirsch was born on June 10, 1929, to Selmer and Lillian (Miller) Olson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She grew up in the Albert Lea area, where she later graduated from high school. She worked as a switchboard operator for many years at the Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea. On October 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Kirsch in Northwood, Iowa. From their union came two wonderful sons, Charles and Thomas.

Dorothy had many hobbies and interests, but the thing she loved more than anything was spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Charles Kirsch and Thomas (Carolyn) Kirsch; grandchildren Shawn Kirsch, Troy Kirsch, Kyle Kirsch, Heather (Bruce) Johnston, Matthew (Kristen) Kirsch, and Molly Kirsch; great-grandchildren Michael and Alex Johnston, and Gus and Sam Kirsch; brother Anthony (Mary Kay) Olson; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Kirsch; and parents Selmer and Lillian Olson.
