Douglas “Doug” Pagel, age 62, passed away peacefully at home on December 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Doug was born on July 23, 1963, and grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He attended Albert Lea High School, graduating in 1981. While Doug lived in several places throughout his life, Albert Lea remained an important part of who he was and where many of his lifelong connections began.
Doug lived his life to the fullest. He was a talented tradesman who firmly believed that if he didn’t already know how to do something, he could learn it. His strong work ethic and hands-on approach were evident in his love for home remodeling and projects of all kinds. Doug enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing guitar, fishing, camping, watching Minnesota sports teams, and spending time outdoors. One of his favorite places was their camper at Pioneer Campsite in Wabasha, Minnesota, where he loved relaxing with family and friends and fishing on the mighty Mississippi River—a place that brought him peace, laughter, and some of his happiest memories. Above all else, he treasured time spent playing with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly (Feine) Pagel; his children, Dalton (Katie) Pagel, Stephanie Schuette, and Kacey (Lucas) Pagel; and his grandchildren, Brianna (Levi), Mackenzie, Hunter, Kennedy, Avery, and Tyson. He is also survived by his siblings, Jerry (Cheryle), Richard, Nancy (Irv), David, Tim (Rayna), John, Mark (Anita), Mary, and Sandy; his best friend, Ray McEachern; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Wilbert Pagel; his sisters, Judy Pagel and Susan Pagel; and his brother-in-law, John Stevens.
Doug will be remembered for his determination, his sense of humor, his love for family, and his belief that anything could be figured out with time and effort. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Bayview Funeral Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on December 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
