Edward Allan Chrs

Edward Chrs, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the St. Johns Community on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Tuesday October 7, 2025 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Monday October 6, 2025 at the funeral home, along with an hour prior to the service. Pastor Don Malinsky will be officiating.

Edward Allan Chrs was born on January 11, 1942 to Eddie and Netta Chrs. He was born and raised on the family farm near Glenville, Minnesota, where he resided until recently making his home at the St. Johns Lutheran Nursing Home in Albert Lea. He attended the 116 Grade School just north of the family farm and spent one year in school at Albert Lea. He was in the third class to graduate from Glenville High School in 1959.

Along with tending to the farm, he worked at what he called “The Packing Plant”, last known as Farmstead for 35 years until the plant started on fire in 2001. He then worked a short period of time at Fleetguard, then Lou-Rich from where he retired from in 2014.

Ed was an active 4-H Keyleader for many years. He helped with coaching 4-H softball and with animals at the fair. He was a member of the Eagles and the Moose, where he loved to dance to polkas and waltzes.

He was a fun loving, caring and joking guy—though he could be stubborn at times. He will be sadly missed by many.

Ed is survived in death by his three children; Keith Chrs, Doug Chrs (Glenville), and Patti (Paul) Stevens (Conger). His two granddaughters Hailey (Patrick) Stevens and Amber (Lupe) Burkart; four great-grandchildren Liam, Cooper, Violet, and Gracie; along with many nieces and nephews.

Ed is preceded in death by his wife Mary Chrs, his parents Eddie and Netta; sisters Beverly, Margorie, Nancy, and Betty Ann.

As the saying goes—“You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy.”
