Gary Lee Jacobsma, 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:30AM at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Visitation shall be held from 5-7PM on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the funeral home and for an hour prior to the service. Minister Ryan Martens will be officiating.
Gary was born in Sibley, Iowa on April 21, 1948, to Alvin and Marion (Feltman) Jacobsma. He grew up in the Round Lake area with his two sisters Diana and Karen, and his brother Mark. Upon graduating High School, he went to work for Worthington Tractor Salvage. Gary was soon relocated to become the manager of Albert Lea Tractor Salvage, in Albert Lea, MN where he met his wife, Becky Weigel. They were married on March 30, 1972, and had three daughters, Jenny, Linda and Bobbi. Many years later Gary shifted gears from tractor salvage to tractor restoration and became the manager of Lee J Sackett Inc in Waltham, MN. Gary proudly served his customers full time until 2012 when he semi-retired. Gary was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Albert Lea.
Gary enjoyed many hobbies. He loved slot car racing, woodworking and putting puzzles together. He enjoyed spending weekends kicking the football with his daughters and showing off his ability to kick barefooted. Gary was a very proud grandpa and he loved spending Sunday afternoons playing croquet with all of the grandkids, attending their school events, and singing church songs with many of them.
A special thank you to Travis Reichl and Dick Olson for their continued support and friendship through the years.
Gary is survived by his wife Becky of Hayward, MN; daughters Jenny (Chris) Lutteke of Wells, MN, Linda (Ryan) Martens of Alden, MN, and Bobbi (Jason) Betts of Clarks Grove, MN; grandkids Jessica (Luke) Shaffer, Colton (Alyssa) Bonfy, Chloe Lutteke, Lilly Lutteke, Alexis (Nathan) Lacina, Christopher (Sadie) Martens, Jackson (Gabriella) Martens, Danni Betts, and Dakota Betts, great grandkids Graham and Brooks Bonfy and Alieth Lacina, sister Karen Stammer, in-laws Randy Weigel, Deb Martin, and Margie Schindelar, and many nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Marion Jacobsma, his sister Diana Hill, his brother Mark Jacobsma, his father and mother-in-law Adam and Beverly Weigel, brothers-in-law Larry and Toby Weigel and sister-in-law Mary Lou Weigel.
