Iona Ann Boelter passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at Whispering Oak Memory Care in Ellendale, MN. She was 88 years old. A memorial service will be held at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. with visitation to be held for an hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery. Chaplain Wendy Browne will be officiating.
Iona was born October 3, 1937, in Worth County, Iowa to George and Blanche Monson. She attended school and graduated from Emmons High School in 1956. Iona married Rodney “Buzz” Boelter on September 2, 1956. She was a homemaker and raised their children. She loved to bake and kept a very clean house. She enjoyed having coffee with the neighbors and her special friends. She loved her vegetable garden, when she was able to tend to it, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Iona is survived by her children, Scott (Sharlet) Boelter, Cheryl (Dale) Boverhuis, and Deb (Jeff) Dahlby; grandchildren, Ashley (Andy) Drenth, Adam (Tawnya) Boelter, Blaine Boverhuis, Cody Boverhuis, and Anna, Nathan, and Erika Dahlby; step-grandchildren, Dale (Suzanne) Boverhuis Jr. and Jana (Todd) Stadheim; great-grandchildren, Kolby, Olivia, Owen, Mariah, Christian, Isabella, Brynlee, and Jaxson; brothers and sisters, Gale (Phylis) Monson, Wally Monson, and Bonnie (Pat) Maher; sister-in-law, Judy Monson; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Iona is preceded in death by her husband, Buzz (December 2020); her parents, George and Blanche Monson; her siblings, Ardien (Rose) Monson, Gloria (Dan) Bolhuis, Duane Monson, and Derald Monson; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Fuzz) Fossum, Beverly (Jerry) Stanton, and Donna (Paul) Hunter; mother and father-in-law, Elner and Mabel Boelter; and nieces, Kelly Maher and Beth Belshan.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the dedicated caregivers at Whispering Oak and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for Iona.
