Albert Lea

Listen to Obituary

Jason J. Westcott, 60, of Albert Lea, passed away peacefully at his home on June 2nd, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Jason was born June 26th, 1965 in Albert Lea to Joel and Sharon Westcott. He graduated from Albert Lea High school in 1984. During high school Jason excelled at hockey, even traveling with his team to Sweden. This spurred a lifelong love for the MN North Stars and MN Wild. As a teenager, Jason enjoyed spending summers at the family cabin on Beaver Lake by Ellendale MN. Following high school, he attended Albert Lea Vocational School earning his diesel mechanic certification.

After college he went to work at Streaters, where he met his future wife Denise. They married in 1989 at their home on Bear Lake. The couple were blessed with 3 children and 9 grandchildren. In 2009 he went to work at Larson's Contracting, making many lifelong friends during his employment.

Jason was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and especially enjoyed his annual trips to the Boundary Waters. Jason and Denise enjoyed "jeepin" in their 1998 Jeep Wrangler "Maggie May". They were members of the North Iowa Jeep Club, doing many group rides and traveling to South Dakota to go rock crawling. He was also a 27 year member of the Emmons Fire Department.

But the thing he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and watching his 9 beautiful grandchildren grow.

In March of 2014, Jason was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma. He fought bravely for many years with his exceptional wife by his side the whole way.

Left to cherish Jason's memory are his loving wife of 37 years Denise, children Ashley (Ben) Mannes of Lake Mills IA, Courtney (Mitch) Grove of Emmons MN, Taylor (Lex) Westcott of Crystal MN. 9 grandchildren: Aidan, Drake, Kennedy, Lily, Jace, Jaden, Ellison, Brynley and Grayson. Mother Sharon, Brothers Scott (Lori) and Travis, sister Jenni (Scott) Hanna. Mothers-in-law Diane Lastine and Shelley Jacobson, siblings-in-law Donnell (Ted) Chopp, Dawn (Michael) Peitzman, Danna Nelson, Dyan (Brant) Strouf, Jeff (Clarine) Jacobson, Erik Jacobson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jason was preceded in death by his father Joel, fathers-in-law Jim Lastine and Neil Jacobson, paternal and maternal grandparents.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Cheryl Citurs, Jason Dunlop and the entire Larson Contracting team, The Mayo Clinic Oncology team and St. Croix hospice for the care and support shown to Jason and family.

Jason was the G.O.A.T. and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
