Kathleen Nelson

July 18, 1923 — January 23, 2005

Kathleen M. "Kacky" Nelson was born July 18, 1923, to Edward H. and Frances L. Sorensen Kline in Austin. She attended school in Austin and Chicago before moving to Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1943. Kacky was a member of the Albert Lea High School Marching Band when they won the State Championship in 1939. After graduating from high school, she worked at American Gas during WWII. On August 12, 1945, Kacky was united in marriage to Raymond E. Nelson in Albert Lea. She had been a cosmetician at Walgreen's for 16 years and worked in various other sales positions. Kacky was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and active in the Church Library-Anns and Bible Study Group, as well as assisting in the Church office. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Women's Bowling Assoc., and Green Lea Ladies League and a former member of the VFW Auxiliary. Kacky loved knitting, bowling, playing golf, and photography. Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Albert Lea; daughter, Sue and her husband, Gary Hunnicutt of Geneva; son, Reed Nelson of Albert Lea; 5 grandchildren: Amy and her husband, Alex Kromminga of Dover, MN, Eric Hunnicutt of Albert Lea, Lisa and her husband, Nick Vreeman of Rochester, Shawn Nelson of Winona, and Garrett Nelson of Denver, CO; 2 great-grandchildren, Zack of Dover and Alisha of Denver; and brother, Ray Kline of Faribault. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
