Albert Lea

Larry Clifford Enderson, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family at Thornecrest Memory Care. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.

Larry was born on November 12, 1945, in Manchester, MN to Kenneth and Elsie (Thofson) Enderson. A proud graduate of Albert Lea High School’s Class of 1964, Larry built a life marked by dedication, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and community. On May 13, 1972, he married the love of his life, Babe Waalkens. Together, they shared 53 beautiful years filled with joy, laughter, and steadfast companionship.

Throughout his working life, Larry wore many hats. He and Babe took over his parents’ business, Ken & Elsie’s, transforming it into Larry’s Korner Mart—a welcoming neighborhood store that became a fixture in Clarks Grove. He later began a 30-year career in facility maintenance at Freeborn Mower Cooperative, where he was known for his reliability and quiet strength.

Larry’s passions added richness to his life. He was a classic car enthusiast, especially fond of Corvettes, and enjoyed connecting with fellow car lovers through local clubs. He found peace in the outdoors, whether tending to his yard or simply watching wildlife from the window. Wednesdays were for lunch with the guys, and every now and then, a trip to Diamond Jo’s added a little sparkle to his week. But above all, Larry’s favorite place was at home, beside Babe—the heart of his world.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Babe Enderson; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Donna Enderson; brother-in-law LuVern Thrond; sister and brother-in-law Bev and Lynn Huston; sister-in-law Judy Waalkens; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Larry is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, Kenny and Elsie; sister Sylvia Thrond; niece Delores Radcliff; father- and mother-in-law Melvin and Mary Waalkens; brother-in-law John Waalkens; sisters and brothers-in-law Reka and Dale Neitzel, Marge and Louie Buckmaster; nephew Mike Willaby; and his beloved cats, Booksie, Blackie, and Lucky, who were never far from his side.

Memorials are preferred to the Crossroads Church Building Fund or St. Croix Hospice—organizations that reflect the compassion and community spirit Larry lived by.
