Larry Gene Johnson, 82, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Albert Lea at 11AM with visitation to be held for an hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery after the service. Reverend Mark Boorsma shall be officiating.
Larry was born on March 15, 1943 in Albert Lea to Henry and Clara (Christensen) Johnson. He grew up in the Albert Lea area alongside his siblings and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1961. He went on to get his Masters degree at the Mankato State University in 1965. With this degree, he took on the calling of teaching the future generations of students.
Larry had many talents and interests. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a member of the Elks and Ascension Lutheran Church. His favorite pastime was traveling, both in the US and abroad. He spent time in Norway and Ireland, as well as most of the US states. He volunteered in the local community, including the church council. One of the things he loved most of all was computers. He was always getting involved with the newest software and was happy to help fix up computer problems for his friends and neighbors. He even set up the websites for Ascension Lutheran Church and the Historical Museum.
Larry is survived by his wife Sandra Johnson, daughters Amy (Chris) Hull and Anne Johnson, grandson Aaron Hull, sisters-in-law Evie (Kenneth) Johnson, Debbie (Richard) Johnson, Leann (Jerry) Bibus, Gary (Sandy) Hareid, and Karen Hareid.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Clara (Christensen) Johnson, siblings Violet (Bill) Matthies, Janet (Marty) Schwartz, Dorothy (Bing) Selland, Shirley (Ken) Oman, Betty (Wally) Westrum, Clara (Dan) Gilmore, Henry (Marge) Johnson Jr., Robert (Evie) Johnson, Richard Johnson, Roger (Donna) Johnson, and Kenneth Johnson, and his grandson Zachary Hull. Memorials are preferred to Ascension Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
