Laverne D. Hauge, 88, passed away at his home in Albert Lea, MN on Monday, April 6, 2026. A funeral service will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle, MN on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11am. A visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, along with an hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Karen Peterson will be officiating.
Laverne was born on December 2, 1937 to Julius and Ruby Hauge in Worth County, Iowa. Laverne grew up around the Northwood, Iowa and Glenville, MN area. He attended Northwood High School. He married Darlene Mittag-Schmidt on March 20, 1976 at the little brown church in Nashua, Iowa. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together. He worked as a meat cutter in the ham boning department at Wilsons/Farmstead for 30 years, along with tending to his farm. Laverne also served his country by joining the Army National Guards, and was stationed in Alaska during the Great Earthquake of 1964.
Laverne enjoyed working on the farm, collecting antique tractors, and gardening. When he wasn’t outside working, he enjoyed drinking coffee with friends, doing jigsaw puzzles, and going out to eat. He would also go to the local auction sales to buy old bikes, and restore them for his grandchildren. Laverne and Darlene enjoyed going on many bus trips across the United States.
Laverne is survived by his wife Darlene Hauge; children Allan (Dawn Broitzman) Schmidt and Dawn (Michael) Friday. His grandchildren Daniel Schmidt, Randi Schmidt, Blair Schmidt, Jonathan (Kristin) Friday, Jared (Kayla) Friday, James Broitzman, Bryce Pratt; great-grandchildren Elaina, Emalee, Elissa, River, Joshiah Friday, and Kennedy Friday. His sister Mary Ann Thompson; brothers-in-law Marvin Thompson, Palmer Peterson, and Raymond Mittag. Sister-in-law Marilyn Anderson, along with many nieces and nephews.
Laverne is preceded in death by his parents Julius and Ruby Hauge; brothers Jerome and Duane Hauge; sisters Crystal Peterson, Arlene Knaack, and Mavis Beighley. His brothers-in-law Richard Knaack, and Elton Beighley; sisters-in-laws Evelyn and Sharon Hauge. His nephew Richard Hauge; father and mother-in-law Gaylen and Pearl Mittag; brothers-in-law Gerald Mittag and Larry Williamson; and his sister-in-law Lydia Mittag.
Memorials are preferred to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, or to the Greenwood Cemetery of Glenville.
