Lucy Joann Paulson

Lucy Joann Paulson, 72, passed away at her home in Albert Lea, MN, surrounded by family on Friday, December 19, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, February 6, 2026 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN, with a visitation held an hour prior to the service. Pastor Kent Otterman will be officiating.

Lucy was born on May 12, 1953 to Joseph Diaz and Maxine Reyerson. She graduated from Albert Lea High school. She married Jeff Paulson on January 19, 1991 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Lucy was a direct care specialist with Crest Services and later Elm Homes, helping people live more independently despite any disabilities they might have.

Lucy lived life by her own rules. She loved flowers. She would assign Jeff the planting duties, and she would lovingly tend to them as they grew. You could also find her at the local thrifting stores, looking for a rare find. Lucy loved going on trips to see the ocean, especially the Gulf Coast around Galveston, Texas. During the holidays, Lucy’s home would be decorated, and ready to host meals with her family and loved ones. But most of all, Lucy loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Lucy is survived by her husband Jeff; daughters Krystal (Davy Villarreal) and Holly Paulson. Grandchildren Trey, Tyson, and Beckett Villarreal; brothers Dan Reyerson, Don Reyerson, and Chris Reyerson; along with many nieces and nephews.

Lucy is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Diaz and Maxine Reyerson and step-father, Curtis Reyerson; brothers Robert Diaz and Ron Reyerson; and sisters Vicky Marie Reyerson, Mary Lou Diaz, and Becky Ann Diaz.
