LuVerne “Vernie” Marie Jensen, age 93, passed away on Sunday August 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
LuVerne Marie (Stelten) Jensen was born on July 6, 1933, to Babe and Adeline (Looman) Stelten in Kimball, Minnesota. She met the love of her life, Lyle Jensen, and they were wed on January 20, 1953, in Kimball. Together, they built a life they loved and raised three children; Nadine, Brett, and Jeff. Vernie and Lyle started their lives together in Minneapolis and later moved to Blooming Prairie in 1971 and then to Albert Lea in 1991.
Vernie lived a rich life full of faith, love and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to her grandchildren and their friends, simply as “Gram.” She loved to cook, eat sweets and she was always cleaning something. In her younger years she was a cheer leader and played slow pitch softball.
Some of Vernie’s favorite things were shopping, trips to the casino, playing cards or bingo, watching her TV shows, and she had a deep love for all things sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She rarely missed a game and loved sharing the excitement, or misery, with her sons.
Vernie is survived by her children, Nadine (Earl) Krieger, Brett “Feller” (Lisa) Jensen, and Jeff Jensen; granddaughters, Melissa (Dan) Wittmer, Kelly Krieger, Ryan (Jake) Potaracke, Rachel Jensen, and Vanessa Powell; and great-grandchildren, Owen Bakken, Liza Wittmer, Aiden Powell, Alaina Powell, Blake Bishop, and Bennett Bishop; and one sister Joan (Doug) Janisch.
In passing, Vernie has been reunited with her husband, Lyle (1998); her siblings, Lou & Spud; her parents; her in-laws; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Jensen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday August 31, 2026 at Bayview Funeral Home at 11am. Visitation will be held for one hour, prior to the service, at 10am. Father Kurt Farrell will be officiating.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to St Croix Hospice and everyone at The Woodlands at St. John’s for the tender care they provided to Vernie during her final months. No memorials please.
