Lydia Juanita Mittag, 76, of Glenville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Bayview Funeral Home in Albert Lea. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and for an hour prior to the service.
Lydia was born on August 21, 1949, in Mason City, Iowa, to Kenneth and Lydia Sanderson. She grew up on a family farm and graduated from Northwood High School. A woman of many talents, Lydia served as a paralegal, writer, teacher, church organist, and pastor. Above all else, she was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Lydia is survived by her husband of 50 years, Raymond; her children, Dan (Dixie) Mittag, Kristi (Drew) Vesterby, and Julie (Jeff) Allen; and her eight grandchildren, Alexis Allen, Couper Allen, Cierra Allen, Joe Vesterby, Shelbie Allen, Chloe Vesterby, Charlie Mittag, and Liliya Mittag.
Lydia was known for her compassion for people from all walks of life, her kindness to strangers, and her deep love of flowers, animals, and family. A true Jill of all trades, there was little she wouldn’t attempt to do herself. She loved to travel and joyfully shared that passion with those she loved.
