Marie Ellen Carlin, 97, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at the St. John’s Fountain Lake Campus in Albert Lea, MN. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, September 25, 2026 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. A visitation will take place an hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.  Pastor Matt Lehman will be officiating.

Marie E. Carlin (Kohlmeyer) was born in Rochester, MN on January 1, 1929 to Louis and Dororthy Kohlmeyer. She graduated from Chatfield High School in 1945. After high school, she married Joseph Carlin on October 8, 1950 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chatfield, MN.

Marie was devoted in her faith, and volunteered at the church teaching Sunday School, and was a part of the Zion Lutheran Circle. She also helped at the Lakeview Library, and participated in the Bike-a-thon.

She loved to do word search puzzle books. She was a very active person, going on bike rides around Fountain lake when the weather wasn’t too cold, and when she couldn’t bike anymore, she would still go for her daily walks. Marie loved playing golf, bowling, or playing volleyball. Joe and her would be always be seen in downtown Albert Lea during street festivals dancing polkas to the Blue Banners, and always seemed to take first place in any dance contest. They would also go on trips to Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico.

At home, Marie made delicious homemade donuts, french toast, and pies. On Saturdays, she would make time to watch Lawrence Welk and Bandwagon on the TV. She loved to watch the sunset. But most of all, she cherished time with her children and grandchildren. She would always be present at any after school sporting events cheering them on.

Marie is survived in death by her children Tom Carlin, Jody Carlin, and Barry (Kim) Carlin; daughters-in-law Diane Carlin and Debbie Carlin. Her grandchildren Camille (Steve) Brown, Kristina (Luke) Liebel, Cale (Clarissa) Carlin, Jace (McKenzie) Carlin, and Brady Carlin. Her great-grandchildren Layne Brown, Evelyn Brown, Briar Carlin, Remy Carlin, and Quinn Carlin.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband Joe Carlin; parents Dorothy and Louis Kohlmeyer; son Kevin Carlin; sisters Luella Jacobson Horsman, and Donna Pease; along with brother Dallas Kohlmeyer.
