Max Raymond Hacker, age 94, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Emmons Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with visitation to be held for an hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Nathan Sletten will be officiating.
Max, better known as Raymond by his friends, was born in Vincent Iowa to Max and Mable (Johnson) Hacker. He grew up in rural Emmons and attended Emmons High School. Upon graduating he began work as a self-employed carpenter. He eventually changed jobs to work at Smitty’s Glass and Lock, where he worked until he retired.
Raymond married Marlys Kuethe on September 10, 1955 at Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church. From their union came five wonderful children.
Raymond was a man who loved his community. He attended Emmons Lutheran Church for many years. He was a member of the Eagles Club, the Moose Club, and he was a Volunteer for the Emmons Fire Department for many years, that is something he took a lot of pride in. He also helped serve the coffee and rolls at the Emmons Legion for Saturday morning coffee.
Raymond is survived by his wife Marlys; sons Steven Hacker of Lake Mills, Iowa, Scott (Karen) Hacker of River Edge, New Jersey, and Craig (Shauna) Hacker of Round Lake, Illinois; daughter Diane (Joseph) Lair of Lake Mills, Iowa; grandchildren Emily Hartman, Matthew Hacker, Lucy Hacker, Isabel Hacker, Kaitlyn Hacker-Melendez, Mitchell Hacker, Max Hacker, Derek Lair, and Adam Lair; great-grandchildren Arrya, Ryver, Edyth, Ethan, Jace, Myrna, Elisyo, and Jonas; and many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Max and Mable Hacker; son Jerry Hacker; grandchildren Caroline Hacker and Casey Hacker; brothers and sisters-in-law Albert Hacker, Frank (Betty) Hacker, Andrew (Darlene) Hacker, Carl (Elsie) Hacker, Robert (Mary) Hacker, and Gordon Hacker; sisters and brothers-in-law Myrtle (Maurice) Spires, Maxine (Lester) Helland, and Edythe (Duane) Thompson; daughter-in-law Lorraine Hacker; Marlys’ parents Erwin and Irene Kuethe; and Marlys’ brother and sister-in-law Curtis (Kay) Kuethe.
