A gathering of family and friends for Phillip J. Luna, age 54, of Northwood, Iowa, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea. Father Russell Scepaniak will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by Freeborn County American Legion and VFW. A reception will follow at Bayview. Phillip passed away at his home on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
Phillip Joseph Luna was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on August 23, 1961. He attended Albert Lea Schools. Phillip entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged and returned to Albert Lea. He held various employment positions with several employers and was a certified mechanic. Phillip’s most memorable employment was traveling with the Sheriff’s Carnival. Phillip will be remembered by all who knew him as loving and caring, especially his father and sisters for whom he assisted as a caretaker. Phillip was a “real jokester†and always found a way to make you laugh. Phillip was a good whistler and always whistled while he worked. Phillip’s love was unconditional and he always put others before himself as shown during the disaster clean-up at St. Peter.
Phillip enjoyed going to rummage sales, fishing, gardening, and always kept his garden weed free. He was a good all-around handyman who took pride in his projects from his nephew’s school projects to shingling roofs. Phillip loved animals. He especially loved German Sheperds and had many cats. Phillip’s first cat Cubby gave birth to Boots which always slept on his bed. Boots gave birth to a litter which included one runt whom he named “Connie†after his sister, Concepcion.
Phillip is survived by his father, Raymond Luna; siblings, Ramona (Robert) Johnson, Mary Larson, Concepcion (Steve) Lee, and Richard (Linda) Luna; and many nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Luna; mother, Lucy Luna; brother, Felix Luna; sisters, Patricia Wind and Diane Austin; grandparents, and many uncles, aunts, nieces, and cousins.
