Raymond Richard Nemec

Funeral services for Raymond R. Nemec, age 79, of Hayward will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018 at St. Theodore Catholic Church.  Father Kurt Farrell will officiate.  Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30, Friday, November 16 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Raymond Richard Nemec was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Northbend, NE., to Thomas and Anne (Humlicek) Nemec.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Church, Northbend, NE.  He graduated from Northbend high school in 1956.  Raymond was in the Naval Reserves from 1956 – 1961.

On April 7, 1959, Ray married Elaine Brandt at St. Wenceslaus Church, in Dodge, NE.  Raymond and Elaine resided on the family farm by Northbend, NE, until they moved to their farm 3 miles east of Hayward, MN in 1962.

Along with farming full-time, Ray was involved with Minnesota Farmers Union, was a parishioner and trustee for St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was on the St. Mary’s cemetery board, and was involved with his kid’s activities at school.  He enjoyed watching all types of sporting events whether they were for his kids, grandkids or on TV.

Survivors include six children: Edith (Brian) Erickson of Lakeville MN; Robin (Kevin) Christenson of Ostrander MN; Renee Wangen of Austin MN; Eileen Nemec of Robbinsdale MN; Ron (Darla) Nemec of Eden Prairie MN; Russ (Sheri) Nemec of Hayward MN; sister-in-law, Audrey Nemec of Rush City MN; brother-in-law, Harold Kermes of Hayward; and grandchildren:  Seth, Emma, Jessica, Jordan, Tony, Thomas, David, Matthew and Travis.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Elaine (1984); sister, Loretta; brother, Tom; and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund.
