Rebecca Nelson

Rebecca Nelson, age 82, passed away on December 11, 2025. A memorial service will be held on at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, December 17 at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Rebecca was born on February 16, 1943, to James and Esther (Jones) Clark. She grew up and received her schooling in Kansas City, Missouri. On June 23, 1962. She was united in marriage to Charles Nelson in Kansas City. The couple settled in Alden to raise their family. Rebecca worked at Ventura Foods for 30 years before retiring. She spent her retired years reading, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her grandkids.

Rececca was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and baking. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rebecca is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Mike) Baldin, Terry (Craig) Whelan, Laurel Syvertson, Kari (Wade) Baseman; grandchildren, Marcellino Baldin (Anthony), Thomas Whelan (Taylor McCollough), Kyle (Whitney) Whelan, Dereck Whelan, Shaun Whelan, Adam Whelan, Elizabeth Haberman, Michael Whelan, Leslie (Shaun)Willaby, Katie Clark (Dustin White), Cody Grabill; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Susan (Clifford) Staloch, Nancy Herndon; and many other loving relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Nelson; brother, James Clark, Clifford Herndon, Leo Herndon, Mark Sellars; sisters, Winifred Malloy, Mary Dunaway, Margaret Sellars.
