Bob was welcomed into heaven at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, IA, on May 28, 2026. Funeral services for Hollandale native Bob Medd, age 102, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Family of Faith Community Church in Hollandale (former site of Hollandale Reformed Church). Rev. Neal Ooms will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert Eugene Medd was born December 19, 1923 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Wilbur and Myrtle Medd. He was married to Louise (Nyenhuis) Medd on March 21, 1945, and they lived on their farm in Hollandale for the entire 70 years of their marriage. He was an active member of Hollandale Reformed Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and elder. He was known as a kind man with a winsome and fun personality. He also loved to build and fix things. Family members never left the farm without an oil check and a “quick look under the hood”.
He is survived by his daughters Lorna Sopcak of Apple Valley, MN; Connie (Jody) Plagge of Clear Lake, IA; son Roger (Kim) Medd of El Segundo, CA; grandchildren Scott and Kevin Juveland, Lynn Ball; Tanja Pankratz, Paul Sopcak, Ellen Fortin; Nick, Luke and Mitch Plagge; Sara Medd, Kaely McKelway, and Alyssa Medd; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Louise, his brother Chuck, his sister Harriet Kraay, and his daughter Marilyn Thofson.
Bob will be remembered in the hearts of many for his unconditional love and acceptance, for his solid faith in Jesus Christ, and for his ability to add laughter to any situation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Croix Hospice, the Family of Faith Community Church, or Gideon’s International.
