Alden

Scott “Chevy” Michael Hemmingsen, 59, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 11AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 4-6PM on Sunday, October 6th at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home and for an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Alden Cemetery immediately following the service. Reverend Kristi Mitchell will be officiating.

Scott was born on December 8, 1964, to Bernard and Lois (Stiehl) Hemmingsen in Albert Lea. He grew up in Alden and took over the family transportation business after graduating from High School in 1983. When he wasn’t busy with his own business, enjoyed entertaining people at his house for many gatherings. Scott was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, served on the Alden City Council, and was proud to be a volunteer firefighter in Alden, for 33 years.

Scott was a very kind and generous man. He took a lot of pride in helping and serving others, but more importantly he gave a lot of his time and energy to the community. He provided a pumpkin patch in his backyard for so many families to enjoy and create memories out of the generosity of his heart. He was known to provide the bouncy houses and fair food whenever there was a fun event around town from his private collection. Scott will be remembered for having a life size gorilla statue in his backyard for the fun of many people.

Family was always very important to Scott. He was the fourth generation in his family to run Hemmingsen’s Transfer. He married Tanya Prinzing on October 5, 1991, and with her they had two beautiful children, Courtney and Parker, who they adored. While they later divorced, Tanya and Scott remained great friends. He loved spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren, and his two dogs Bella and Chevy. As a family, they took many memorable trips throughout the years which left memories that will last a lifetime. When football season came around, he enjoyed taking his family to all the home Gopher football games where he was a proud season ticket holder. He also enjoyed taking weekend adventures as a family.

He is survived by his children, Courtney (Jordan) Janzig and Parker Hemmingsen, grandchildren Sophie and Jake Janzig of Alden, and his ex-wife Tanya Hemmingsen of Albert Lea; brother, Rick (Mary) Hemmingsen, of Independence, Mo.; brother Kevin (Terese), of Wabasha; sister-in-law Nancy Hemmingsen of Owatonna, mother-in-law Colleen Prinzing of Albert Lea, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was also blessed to be survived by MANY wonderful lifelong friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Lois Hemmingsen, his brothers Craig and Tracy Hemmingsen, and father-in-law Malcolm Prinzing.
