Susan “Suzie” Kristine Hensel, passed away on March 18th, 2026, surrounded by her family at the Allina Hospital in Owatonna. Suzie will be cremated and her ashes will be spread next to her parents and in some of her favorite places. She requested that there be no funeral or celebration of life.
Suzie was born on February 2, 1951, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She and her brother John were adopted by Martin and Gladys Olson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1969 and was united in marriage to Darrell Hensel in 1972. They started their family in Albert Lea and were divorced in 2016.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered around caring for those she loved. Her grandsons Levi and Wesley and great-grandson Asher were the light of her life. She was very proud of them and all their accomplishments.
She worked hard all her life and passed that strong work ethic onto her children and grandchildren, leading by example. In her spare time, she enjoyed planting and growing flowers, decorating, sewing, crafting, camping, and spending time with her family and neighbors. She had a special gift for creativity and was a dedicated crafter. She loved going to craft sales and would often smile and say, “I could probably make that” and she usually could. Whether sewing, quilting or creating something out of what seemed like nothing, Suzie found joy in making things with her hands. One of her most meaningful gifts were the quilts she made before her passing for her great-grandson, Asher, and for future great-grandchildren. Something that they will cherish for years to come.
Suzie also had a deep love for animals. Her home was always shared with her beloved pets, including her dog Sophie, who brought her comfort and companionship.
Suzie is survived by her daughter Jaclyn (Kevin) Hanson, sons Jay Hensel, Keith Hensel, grandsons Levi (Jewls) Hanson, Wesley (Brenda) Hanson, great-grandson Asher, brother John Olson, beloved dog Sophie, and special friend Ellie Noland.
She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Gladys Olson.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the MCHS-Albert Lea Emergency Department, Owatonna Allina, and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care, kindness, and dignity they gave Suzie while she was in their care.
In Lieu of flowers or memorials, we kindly request that you remember Suzie in your thoughts. She will be deeply missed.
