Vernon "Vern” Peter Lunde, 96, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026 at the St. John’s Campus in Albert Lea, MN. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 28, 2026 at the Hayward Lutheran Church in Hayward, MN. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Josh Enderson will be officiating.

Vernon “Vern” Peter Lunde was born on December 6, 1929 in Moscow Township, located in Freeborn County, Minnesota. He was the youngest of Rudolph and Hattie (Nordland) Lunde’s five children.

Vern married Beverly Johnson on December 9, 1951. They had three children: Rudolph Dale, Larry, and Virginia. They lived and raised their family in Hayward, Minnesota. Vern belonged to the Hayward Lutheran Church, and was a volunteer fireman with the Hayward Fire Department for 34 years. He worked at Wilson and Company for 40 years as a tinner.

Vern and Beverly enjoyed dancing and going on trips to Branson, Alaska, and Hawaii. He liked to go hunting, fishing, and playing cards with his friends. Vern also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings games.

Vern enjoyed doing things with his two grandson Cam and Nathan, and was very proud of his four great-grandchildren Lexi, Cooper, Evie, and Henry. He also loved pets, especially dogs, and would carry treats in his pockets for them.

Vernon is survived by his wife Beverly Lunde; children R. Dale (Lise) Lunde, Larry Lunde, and Virginia (Rick) Lunde. Grandsons Cam (Stacy) Loberg and Nathan (Lisa) Loberg. Great-grandchildren Lexi, Cooper, Evie, Henry, and another coming in September. His many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Koko.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Rudoplh and Hattie; siblings Orion (Mildred) Lunde, Rudoplh jr (Velga) Lunde; sister Ingeborg (Virgil) Taylor, and Robert (Jean) Lunde; and nieces Linda Lunde and Lanna Lunde.
