William Joseph Pomerson

William (Bill) Pomerson, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Thorne Crest Retirement Home in Albert Lea. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 30 at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Fr. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery in Albert Lea.

Bill was born June 1, 1937. The son of William L. and Helen (Leimgruber) Pomerson in Sandusky, OH. He attended school in FL where he was an altar boy. The family moved to Bellevue, OH where Bill graduated from high school in 1956. In high school Bill met Dorothy Lapata and they were married in 1961.

Bill worked in Ohio at Bellevue Manufacturing and Columbus Showcase. In 1973 the family moved to Albert Lea where Bill worked at Streater as the Manager of Plant Engineering.

Bill enjoyed carpentry and was an expert woodworker. He built grandfather clocks, rolltop desks, entertainment centers, bedroom furniture, wooden pepper mills, wooden trucks and over 140 wooden Pegs and Jokers games (a fun game which brings people together)! He was a Mr. Fix It and would try to fix anything. Money was saved because of this ability.

The family loved to camp and spent many summer weeks fishing for walleye “up North”. After retirement from Streater in 1997, Bill and Dorothy traveled through the United States and Canada in the Winnebago and were members of the Winnehaha, Southern Honkers and Northwoods Winnebago clubs. They became “Winter Texans“ in 1998 and spent 24 winters at Texas Trails in Pharr, TX.

Bill was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2010. He never complained about it and lived with his disease gracefully.

Per Dorothy “Bill would do anything for his family and was my best friend. I was thankful for him every day. You will be missed.”

Those left to share his memory are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; sons Edward (special friend Linda Knudsen) and Andrew (Tracey); daughter Anne (Charles) Peglow; grandchildren Zachary (Katelynn) Peglow, Kathleen Peglow, and Vincent Pomerson; brother, Tony (Dolores) Pomerson; sister-in-law Ilona Lapata as well as his three nieces.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Pomerson; In-laws Steve and Louisa Lapata, and brother-in-law, Steven Lapata.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Health Systems for the care they provided to Bill over the last few years and Thorne Crest and St. Croix Hospice for their amazing care.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or St. Theodore Catholic Church.
